'George
[Headley] does not say he was interested in cricket. He says that the game had
a grip on him.
As with many Jamaican
boys the bat and ball
accompanied him on picnics. A popular spot for
recreation
on Public Holidays was Rockfort Gardens.
While the older folk sat on the grass,
ate and chatted,
George and his friends
would find a spot where the
ground was
bare. Cricket
again.'
